Heavy rain that is anticipated across North and West Alabama over the next 36 hours could cause flooding.
It will be a warm and humid day across Alabama with increasing rain chances by tonight. The widespread rain will end Monday morning, but rain chances will be in the forecast through much of the week ahead.
AT 1:50 PM: We continue to have a good bit of clouds covering much of Central Alabama going into the mid-afternoon hours, while some sunshine is making it to the surface.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is part of the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). Their mission is to provide timely and accurate forecasts and watches for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes over the contiguous United States.
Clouds will keep the skies gray throughout the day with a few raindrops possible. Unfortunately, rain stays in the forecast for the rest of the seven-day forecast, except for Wednesday.
RADAR CHECK: A cold front is near I-20 this afternoon, and radar continues to show rain showers over the northern quarter of the state, mostly over the Tennessee Valley. North of the front, temperatures are in the 50s, but to the south most South Alabama communities are well into the 70s. The front will drift northward tonight, toward the Tennessee border.
