THIS AFTERNOON: The sky has become partly to mostly sunny across Alabama this afternoon… the exception is the northwest part of the state where clouds and a few snow flurries linger. Temperatures are only in the 20s over most of North/Central Alabama… the average high for February 16 at Birmingham is 59. Tonight will be fair and cold with a low between 15 and 25 degrees.
Snow flurries and showers have been ongoing through the morning hours, providing plenty of excitement, but most of this activity is winding down, but it remains bitterly cold across the state today.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued due to additional snow accumulations of up to one half inch through the midday hour today.
FRIGID AIR: Temperatures are generally in the 10-18 degree range over the northern half of Alabama this morning… we even had a hard freeze down to the Gulf Coast; Mobile reports 20 degrees just before daybreak. Snow flurries overnight have provided a “dusting” this morning for many areas, and between that and black ice travel is very difficult in many areas.
At 5:25 am, there are a few flurries and very light snow showers being reported in parts of the area that may not be showing on radar at this point. There is not enough falling to cause any additional issues to what we have already on the roadways this morning.
