Alabama Newscenter — People of Alabama: Reggie Smith and Daughter Rachael of Birmingham
“It was a miracle. She’s my firstborn. I was just surprised, ‘I’ve got a little girl.’ I was excited. You want to be right there with them the whole time…”
RADAR CHECK: Large patches of light rain continue across much of Alabama this afternoon… some sleet was even in the mix over the northwest part of the state this afternoon where the air is colder. Temperatures are mostly in the 40s… the average high for Birmingham on March 2 is 63. Rain will end from west to east tonight, but clouds will linger.
A strong upper shortwave wave and a surface low tracking along the Gulf Coast are bringing a widespread, cold, soaking rain to the state today.
WET IS THE WORD: A well defined upper air short wave will bring occasional rain to Alabama today; rain amounts of 1/2 inch are likely for the northern half of the state… some spots over South Alabama will see over one inch. The air will be cold and stable… most North Alabama communities will hold in the 40s all day, meaning no risk of severe storms, and probably no thunder.
