Rain Returns Tomorrow

| April 12, 2016 @ 3:15 pm

THIS AFTERNOON: While we have a cloudless sky over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama, clouds persist over the rest of the state. Showers are almost impossible to find statewide.

Temperatures are mostly in the 60s, and tonight will be dry and cool.

TOMORROW/THURSDAY: The high resolution NAM model continues to show rain increasing across the state tomorrow afternoon as a wave of low pressure forms on the stalled front over far South Alabama. We will forecast a good chance of rain by tomorrow afternoon, with periods of rain likely tomorrow night into Thursday. While thunderstorms are possible, severe weather is not expected. Rain amounts of around one inch are likely, and the rain will taper off Thursday night.

FRIDAY: Still seeing a big contrast between the dry GFS model, and the European (ECMWF) that shows rain lingering. We will side with the wetter solution for now and keep a chance of showers going into the day Friday. The high will be in the 60s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A wedge type feature could keep some clouds over East Alabama Saturday morning, otherwise the weekend looks very nice, with ample sunshine both days. We will adjust the high Saturday downward a bit, into the 67-70 degree range, but mid 70s are likely by Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: Warm, dry is the story Monday through Wednesday with daily highs around 80 degrees, there will be a risk of showers toward the end of the week, but model inconsistency makes for a low confidence forecast. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
