Showers for a Lucky Few

| December 27, 2016 @ 10:54 am

Just a quick check of Central Alabama weather right here before 11 a.m.

A few lucky folks across northern Pickens, northern Tuscaloosa into western Jefferson County have seen some decent showers over the past ninety minutes or so. No lightning as of now, but there is a little bit of instability out there, so some folks might hear thunder eventually. Tops of the activity are just too low just yet to allow the electrification process to commence.

This batch of showers will affect much of the City of Birmingham down to Homewood and over to Irondale over the next hour or so.

Rainfall amounts are pretty pitiful though, less than 0.25 inches per hour, so don’t get your hopes up.

But there still appears to be decent rainfall amounts in the offing for Alabama over the next couple of weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.

Temperatures are mild this morning, in the upper 60s in the I-20 Corridor. There are a few breaks in the clouds south of Tuscaloosa, where Demopolis has warmed to 74F. There are more breaks to the northwest, behind the cold front, which lies just north of I-59.
