The Warm-Up Continues

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

ALL IS QUIET: No big change in our weather for the rest of the week; mostly sunny mild days and fair, cool nights will continue through Friday. We should rise into the low 70s today; the high tomorrow and Friday will be somewhere between 67 and 70. We will have periods of high clouds, but nothing to seriously block the sun.

THE WEEKEND: A weak short wave will pass through the southern U.S. over the weekend, and it might squeeze out a few showers late Saturday or Saturday night. But, with only very limited moisture and weak wind fields, rainfall, if any, will be light and spotty. Temperatures will remain mild over the weekend with highs between 67 and 70.

NEXT WEEK: A strong upper low will form over Texas on Sunday, and it drifts slowly in our direction early next week. It still looks like our best chance of rain and storms with that feature will come Tuesday night and Wednesday. If we do have strong storms associated with this feature, it looks like the greatest risk will come from hail since the air aloft will be pretty cold.

LONG RANGE: The cold upper trough that was showing up on yesterday’s 12Z run of the GFS March 16-19 is gone on the latest run we have in the house (the 06Z run). The westerlies shift to the north, leaving much of the southern U.S. under a flat ridge. This will suggest warmer than normal temperatures here in the March 15-25 time frame, with below normal rainfall. Understand we are not saying it won’t rain during those ten days, but no major storm systems will show up in that kind of upper air flow.

WEATHERBRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to this week’s WeatherBrains show on the web, or on iTunes; the entire show is dedicated to the Enterprise tornado tragedy. Check it out when you have a little time.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page.

SPECIAL ABC 33/40 NOAA WEATHER RADIO OFFER: You can purchase a Midland NOAA Weather Radio at any Publix or Handy TV location in this part of Alabama for only $29.95. These receivers have the new digital technology that allows you to choose the counties for which the alarm sounds. Get more information here.

This morning I will be speaking to the pre-school at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover… I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
