Strong Storms Continue this Evening

| July 15, 2017 @ 5:18 pm

Numerous showers and storms are ongoing across Central Alabama early this evening. The general movement of the storms has been southward today, but for the most part they are just meandering about the area.

Some of the strongest storms at this time are impacting Jefferson County and the Birmingham Metro, along with portions of Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Clay, and Marion counties.

Storm are producing tropical downpours, which could lead to isolated flash flooding. You can expect gusty winds and perhaps small hail, but once again, the most dangerous threat from the storms is the lightning. Though the storms are intense, they should remain below severe limits, but of course a storm or two will certainly be capable of reaching severe limits briefly with damaging wind gusts.

We should begin to see the storms gradually wind down in coverage and intensity after sunset as we lose daytime heating, and most of the activity should be gone by midnight, with just some lingering showers.
