Harvey Becomes a Hurricane

Harvey has been strengthening rapidly since last evening, dropping 21 millibars of central pressure in 12 hours.

The plane just found flight level winds of 100 mph, so the NHC has upgraded the storm to a hurricane with official sustained winds of 80 mph.

A special advisory will be issued at 1 p.m.

Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate
that Harvey has intensified to a hurricane, with maximum sustained
winds of 80 mph (130 km/h).

A Special Advisory will be issued by 1 PM CDT (1800 UTC) in lieu
of the intermediate advisory to update the intensity forecast.
