Very Heavy Rain, Wind in Birmingham Metro

| October 8, 2017 @ 7:47 am

A strong feeder band from Tropical Storm Nate is moving through Central Alabama right now.

It extends from the Birmingham area, with torrential rain and strong winds in Hoover and Vestavia down to Chelsea, Wisonville and Talladega Springs.

Driving will be hampered during the passage of this band and trees could be felled by the strong winds so please be in a safe place.

Strong winds will continue through the morning and into the afternoon as the center of the Tropical Storm pushes northeast rapidly.

It is currently over Sumter and Greene Counties in West Central Alabama. It will track near Tuscaloosa and Birmingham between 9 a.m. and noon.

Flash flood watches are in effect and heavy rain may cause flash flooding. Much of the area has picked up 1.5-2.5 inches of rain so far with an isolated streak of four-inch amounts from between Selma and Montgomery up to south of Birmingham.

As soon as the feeder band passes, things will calm a bit, but the main area of wind and rain will approach with the center 2-3 hours later.
