Statewide Hard Freeze

Here we go with another long list of low temperatures, not only from Alabama, but far and wide. Remember, we often get more than one report from some Alabama locations. Also, notice how this morning’s hard freeze went all the way to the Alabama Gulf Coast.

I have a long history of loving cold weather. When next July gets here with daily highs around 90 and the relative humidity over 500%, will we all not relish weather like today? Enough of that, here we go . . .

MOUNTAIN CITY WEATHER CENTER
Bill McMillan operates this private weather center in Mountain City, Tennessee. He is an Auburn guy that became extremely interested in weather after 9 inches of snow covered Auburn in the Blizzard of ’93. Mountain City is located in Johnson County in the very NE corner of Tennessee. The elevation in Mountain City is around 2,500 feet, but ridges in the county reach almost 6,000 feet. They get a lot of upslope snow. In the last two days, these snow amounts:
7.5 inches…Mountain City
10.5 inches…Trade, a small community in the same county

35 below zero was the state low this morning at Selawik
2 below zero at Fairbanks with a 17-inch snow cover
33 below zero at Barrow with 17 inches of snow
30 inches of snow on the ground at Valdez
