An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

Be sure and scroll down and read J.B.’s account of the Hale County tornado which happened on this date in 1904. A very interesting read.

FEELING GOOD: Seems like everyone is happy with today’s weather; lots of sun and temperatures in the 50s this afternoon; right at seasonal levels for late January. If you like today, you should really like tomorrow with a partly sunny sky and a high in the mid 60s.

OUR WEEKEND: We will still mention a few periods of light rain on Saturday with a front slipping in here from the north, but the moisture and dynamics will be very limited, and rain amounts should be only a quarter-inch or less. Any light rain Sunday, most likely, will fall over the southern half of the state, and even there it probably won’t rain very much. The weekend will be cooler with a high in the low 50s both days.

NEXT WEEK: It really looks like most of the first half of the week will be dry; some hint of showers Tuesday or Wednesday over far North Alabama, but from the I-20 corridor south the chance of any wet weather for now seems small. Highs will be in the 50s on Monday and Tuesday, rising to near 60 Wednesday. The latest GFS MOS is printing 67 degrees on Thursday, followed by a decent rain event on Friday January 30 thanks to a cold front passing through.

THE LAND OF VOODOO: You can watch the Weather Xtreme video for the GFS look at weather into February; it shows an interesting cold core upper low here around Feb 2 that would pose some interesting possibilities, but it is all voodoo for now. And, still some sign of the NAO going negative early next month, which makes us wonder if February will make us shiver.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

I had a great time seeing the kindergarten and 1st grade students at Walter Wellborn Elementary School this morning over in Calhoun County; be looking for them on the KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News! The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
