Another Fine Midday Out There In Central Alabama

| October 19, 2017 @ 12:13 pm

Conditions At 11:45 AM
Other than a few wispy cirrus clouds and contrails, skies are crystal clear as we approach the midday hour across Central Alabama. Winds at this time are light and variable, and temperatures are running in the upper 60s to the mid-70s across much of the area. Birmingham is currently at 72 degrees, while the cold spot is currently Gadsden at 66 degrees. A few locations in the southern portions of the area are tied for the warmest spot at 73 degrees.

Weather For The Rest Of Your Thursday
With high pressure in control of our weather, we will continue to have sunny skies and mild temperatures, but a little warmer than Wednesday’s highs. Today’s highs will be in the mid to upper 70s, with a few spots touching 80 degrees. Clear skies and cool temperatures for the evening and into the overnight hours. Temperatures will be in the 60s throughout the area around 7:00 PM, and dropping into the mid-40s to the lower 50s for the overnight lows.

A Fantastic Friday
A near carbon copy of today’s weather across Central Alabama for your Friday… sunny skies with slightly warmer temperatures. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-70s to the lower 80s throughout the area. Tomorrow evening for the high school football games will be nice but will be getting cool by the end of the games. Temperatures will start off in the mid-60s to the lower 70s around 6:00 PM under clear skies, and drop into the mid-50s to the lower 60s by 10:00 PM. Overnight lows will drop into the 50s for most with the colder spots hitting the 40s.

Heading To The Beach For The Weekend
Friday will be nice along the Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle Gulf Coast, but clouds and thunderstorm chances return for the weekend. Highs will be in the lower. Picture Of The Day
Mrs. Castleberry’s students at Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia are eagerly awaiting our Weather Balloon Launch! Bill Murray and myself will be assisting with the sixth grader’s weather balloon launch soon. Always so fun to teach the basics of weather forecasts to young meteorologists.

On This Day In Weather History
1844 – The famous “Lower Great Lakes Storm” occurred. Southwesterly winds were at hurricane force for five hours, driving lake waters into downtown Buffalo NY. The storm drowned 200 persons.
