Sunny & Comfortable At Midday

| October 20, 2017 @ 1:46 pm

Conditions At 1:45 PM
We are enjoying another great midday in Central Alabama with generally clear skies with bright sunshine. We have a few high cirrus clouds floating in from the west out ahead of the trough and accompanying cold front that we’ll have to deal with at the end of the weekend and into the beginning of next week.

As for now, high pressure is off to our northeast keeping our weather nice and comfortable for one more day before dewpoint values start to creep back up tomorrow. Temperatures at this point are running in the mid-70s to the lower 80s throughout Central Alabama, with Birmingham currently at 77 degrees.

Weather For The Rest Of Your Friday
Other than a few high, wispy cirrus clouds overhead, skies will be sunny throughout the remainder of the daytime hours. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-70s to the lower 80s throughout the area. Tomorrow evening for the high school football games will be nice but will be getting cool by the end of the games. Temperatures will start off in the upper 60s to the lower 70s around 6:00 PM under mainly clear skies, and drop into the mid-50s to the lower 60s by 10:00 PM. Overnight lows will drop into the 50s for most with the colder spots hitting the 40s.

The Central Alabama Weekend
A little more warmth and more moisture moves into the area on Saturday ahead of a trough that will be bringing a cold front. Good news is that we’ll stay dry, but we’ll have to put up with a few clouds. Nothing to worry about for any local college football games. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the lower 80s throughout much of the area, with some mid-80s possible in the extreme southern parts. Lows will only dip down into the upper 50s to the mid-60s.

The cold front approaches closer to the area on Sunday, and could bring a few isolated showers and storms to the western parts of the state through the early evening hours before a more soaking rainfall is likely during the late night and through the overnight hours. Rainfall will not come to an end across the area until well into Monday evening. A few storms could be strong, but organized severe weather is not expected due to low CAPE values and poor lapse rates. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the mid-80s, with lows in the 60s.

GFS Estimated Rainfall Amounts Through 1AM Tuesday.
