Alabama Weather Update 10:30 a.m.
A thick cloud deck covers almost all of North and Central Alabama this morning. Clearing is noted over southwestern sections of the state and clouds are beginning to break up over Mississippi. The clouds should break by during the late afternoon and clear skies are expected tonight.
There is considerable light rain and drizzle across much of the area. The precipitation is most significant across eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, eastern Shelby, Talladega and Clay Counties. The rain extends back into middle Tennessee. It is 37 at Nashville and 35 at Crossville.
Temperatures are in the middle 40s across Central Alabama and near 40 in the Tennessee Valley. Northwest winds blowing at 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph are making it feel even colder. A lake wind advisory is in effect.
Readings tonight will drop quickly into the middle 30s on average with a few normally colder locations hitting freezing. There could be scattered light frost, but the winds may help us out by staying up just a bit.
Some folks did get beneficial rains yesterday as JB reported…here is a report from Wadley…
I’m one of the NOAA official rain stations, located in Wadley, Randolph County, AL. My recording “day” starts at 5:30 am.
Rain started here mid-afternoon Saturday and by 5 am this morning it had stopped. Rain total for the period was 3.24″. This one event provided much more rain that all of our traditional “heavy rain” month of March.
