A Nice Warm-Up Today

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Be sure and scroll down and see last night’s posts on the blog… what a great video from Brian Peters on his trip to Gees Bend. You can also see some pictures of our adventure down into South Alabama on Saturday during the severe weather event. I will post some pictures shortly from North Monroe County… there was some very significant tornado damage down there.

RIGHT NOW: Doesn’t exactly feel like mid-April. The Birmingham Airport is at 35 degrees, and I am sure some of the colder valleys are at or below freezing. J.B. will post a list of morning lows on here a little later this morning. And, up in the Northeast U.S., a whopper of a nor’easter is producing major flooding in New Jersey, New York, and along the coastal sections of New England including Boston. Central Park in New York City has received over 8 inches of rain, and heavy snow continues to fall over inland areas, where up to one foot is possible. Winds at Nantucket, MA are gusting to 53 mph, and gusts atop Mt. Washington, NH are up to 131 mph. What a way to start a Monday.

We warm up nicely today… with maximum sunshine we should reach the upper 60s this afternoon. And, tomorrow also will be dry with low to mid 70s likely.

SHOWERS WEDNESDAY: A weakening upper trough will bring the chance of showers to Alabama on Wednesday, but the rain will not be a drought buster. I doubt if we get over 1/4 inch here… the latest NAM shows only 0.13″ for Birmingham. Our rain deficit for the year is now up to 10.96″ (as we figured, the QPF was way overdone for Saturday’s system here), and that small amount on Wednesday won’t help much.

LONG TERM: At this point the weather looks dry and mild Thursday through Sunday, with mild afternoons and cool nights. The next major system for Alabama really doesn’t show up on the GFS until April 27.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. Lots to read on that site this morning.

A busy Monday here… I will be speaking at the Exceptional Foundation this morning, and then at a function for Trinity Medical Center at The Club. I will be in the office by early afternoon, and the afternoon Weather Xtreme video should be ready by 3:30!
