Moderate to Heavy Snow Approaching Montgomery, I-85 Corridor

| January 16, 2018 @ 10:19 pm

At least three areas of moderate to heavy snow continue across Alabama tonight.

BMX radar at 10:18 p.m.

…The first is over South Central Alabama and covers much of Autauga, eastern Dallas, western Lowndesand eastern Wilcox Counties. This snow will affect all of the Montgomery area as well as Prattville as it pushes east. It will impact areas along and southwest of Auburn/Opelika along I-85. in Selma, snow is beginning to accumulate on the Edmund Pettus bridge over the Alabama River.

…Heavy snow is straddling I-59 in Sumter and Greene Counties. No reports being received from that area, but I would imagine I-59/20 is becoming icy.

…Heavy snow is occurring across DeKalb and northern Etowah counties, approaching I-59.

The HRRR forecasts that these last two snow areas will link up before 11 p.m. and bring another round of snow to southern Jefferson and northern Shelby Counties. We will have to wait and see.

LATE REPORT
Roads are closed in the cities of Talladega, Lincoln, Sylacauga and Childersburg in Talladega County.

COLD, COLD, COLD
We are down to 20F at the Birmingham Airport and 22F at Tuscaloosa and Anniston. It is now 12F at Muscle Shoals.

The temperatures at Paris, Tennessee is now -2F, with five inches of snow on the ground.
