Strong Storms Still Possible Over SE Parts of Central Alabama For Next Hour Or So

| April 4, 2018 @ 2:57 am

No severe weather watches and warnings are in effect for anywhere in North/Central Alabama. As a matter of fact, all of North Alabama and much of the northern half of Central Alabama is now rain free. The leading edge of the line of storms is currently stretching from La Fayette (Chambers Co.) to Auburn (Lee Co.) to Troy (Pike Co.).

While there is a possibility of a strong thunderstorm or two with gusty winds of 40-50 MPH along this line for the next hour or so until it moves into western Georgia, the threat for any organized severe weather has ended. Even with that being said, winds at that speed can still bring some trees and power lines down.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect until 2:00 Am this morning has been allowed to expire. NWS Birmingham or the Storm Prediction Center saw no need to expand or extend the watch. The line of rain and thunderstorms continues to weaken as it moves farther east into a more stable environment in the western parts of Georgia and down into the southeastern parts of Central Alabama.

You will notice that all of the North Alabama counties are in a light blue color. This denotes that a Freeze Warning will go into effect starting at 1:00 AM Thursday for Colbert, Cullman, Dekalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties till 9:00 AM Thursday. Lows are forecast to drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s in the area which could lead to damage to sensitive vegetation.
