New Tornado Watch Includes Much of Central Alabama Until 7:00 PM

The Storm Prediction Center, in conjunction with NWS Birmingham has issued a Tornado Watch for a good portion of Central Alabama until 7:00 PM tonight. This watch includes the counties of Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

Threats in the watch area include a few tornadoes (some of which could be strong), damaging wind gusts up to 75 MPH, and isolated hail up to ping pong size.

Surface instability values are running higher than expected, so we need to be weather aware throughout the remainder of the daylight hours. We’ll have frequent updates throughout the day on AlabamaWx.com.
