Warm Weather Continues; A Few Showers Saturday

| May 3, 2018 @ 5:54 am

QUIET PATTERN: While strong to severe storms are rumbling early this morning over parts of the nation’s mid-section, Alabama’s weather remains quiet with a clear sky. We are in the 50s and 60s at daybreak; the high today will be back in the mid 80s for most communities, above the average high of 79 degrees for May 3 (for Birmingham). The sky will remain partly to mostly sunny.

A large upper trough over the western third of the nation will bring more active weather today and tonight from Texas to New England; a few storms there could produce large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes…

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: For Alabama, tomorrow will be another warm, dry day thanks to the upper ridge overhead. The sky will be partly sunny with a high in the 80s; showers and storms remain north and west of here. Then, on Saturday, a weakening surface boundary will drift down into North Alabama, bringing the potential for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms to the northern half of the state.

So, if you have something planned outdoors, yes, there is the risk of a passing shower or thunderstorm. But, on the positive side…

*Most of the day should be dry.
*The sun will be out at times.
*We stay warm with a high around 80.
*The southern half of the state should be generally rain-free.
*Rain amounts over North Alabama should be relatively light and spotty; heavier totals will be near the Tennessee state line.

For Sunday, just a slight risk of a shower. The sky will be partly sunny with a high in the low 80s.

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge stays in place, meaning generally warm and dry weather for the week. We could see a day or two with a few isolated showers, but it is a dry pattern. And, no risk of severe storms for Alabama for the next ten days. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
