A Few Scattered Showers/Storms Tomorrow

| May 4, 2018 @ 5:54 am

WARM, DRY WEATHER CONTINUES TODAY: An upper ridge will keep Alabama warm and dry today; with a partly to mostly sunny sky we project a high in the mid 80s this afternoon. Clouds will increase tonight, and a few showers could move near the Tennessee border.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A weak surface front will slide into North Alabama tomorrow, and will bring the risk of a few scattered showers and storms. Best coverage of showers will be over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama, and the southern half of Alabama will stay dry. Some notes about tomorrow’s weather…

*It won’t rain all day; in fact some North/Central Alabama communities will see no rain at all.
*Rain amounts should be light and spotty south of the Tennessee Valley.
*The sun will be out at times, and South Alabama will be mostly sunny during the day.
*The afternoon high will be between 78 and 81 degrees, but warmer down over South Alabama.

We should mention that where storms do form over Northwest Alabama, they could be fairly strong with a decent amount of instability involved. SPC has introduced a “marginal risk” of severe storms over the northwest part of the state…

The main threat will come from gusty winds; there is little upper support and there is no risk of a tornado.

Drier air returns Sunday… the day should be warm and dry with a partly sunny sky. Sunday’s high will be close to 80 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks warm and dry as the upper ridge persists… highs should be mostly in the low 80s. A few scattered showers are possible by Thursday and Friday over North Alabama as moisture levels rise, but probably nothing too heavy or widespread. No signs of any severe weather problems for Alabama over the next ten days…. see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
