Storms Training Over Northern Jefferson County; Some Localized Flooding Possible

| June 10, 2018 @ 9:43 pm

Strong storms continue to move across the same parts of Jefferson County as some back-building is occurring to the west in the southeastern parts of Walker County. Plenty of cloud-to-ground lightning occurring from North Birmingham to Fultondale to Gardendale and over to Tarrant and Center Point along with heavy rainfall. Locations may be seeing some localized flooding are Birmingham, Trussville, Gardendale, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Fultondale, Center Point, Clay, Pinson, Tarrant, Adamsville, Argo, Kimberly, Graysville, Morris, Brookside, Mulga, Maytown and Cardiff, due to cell training with heavy rainfall.

This has become a large cluster of storms that now stretches eastward over to Moody to Pell City to Saks and up to Jacksonville and Piedmont. This cluster started off as smaller storms but a fast moving outflow boundary from the southern part of the state interacted with the smaller storms. When that happened, these storms grew in size and joined together while intensifying. This large cluster of storms is back-building to the west in parts of Walker and southern Winston counties.

We’ll continue watching this cluster as more areal flood advisories or even a flash flood warning may be issued at some point with the continuous rainfall over the same locations.

Believe it or not, the rest of Central Alabama has calmed down and only a few light scattered showers are showing up in the southeastern parts of Central Alabama in Lee County.
