Strong Storms Affecting Eastern & Southern Parts Of Central Alabama

| June 11, 2018 @ 4:47 pm

We continue to have big storms moving through the eastern and the southern parts of Central Alabama as we are making our approach to the 5 o’clock rush hour time. The good news is that the storms have been generally weakening trend over the past 30 minutes as no storms at this point currently has a Significant Weather Advisory issued on it.

The largest storm on the radar is currently located over the southeastern parts of Coosa, the southwestern parts of Tallapoosa and over the northeastern corner of Elmore counties. This cluster of storms is putting down copious amounts of rain, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and some gusty winds around 30 MPH. Alexander City, Jacksons Gap, Dadeville, and Camp Hill are the next in line to be affected by these storms.

Please make it indoors immediately if you are in the path of any of these storms. Nearly every single one of these have dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning occurring with them. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the parent storm to be struck by lightning. That distance can be up to 10 miles or even farther. When thunder roars, go indoors.

The latest HRRR solution shows that these storms will continue to weaken throughout the evening and should be nearly gone by 11:00 PM tonight, while a few could persist into the overnight hours.

We’ll continue to have updates, if needed, throughout the remainder of the evening. Keep checking back with us. Remember that any warnings or advisories that are issued immediately are posted to the blog.
