Strong Storms Moving Into Shelby, Northern Bibb and Talladega Counties

| June 23, 2018 @ 9:21 am

Strong thunderstorms are moving through the Birmingham Metro area right now and are entering Bibb and Shelby Counties now and will be entering Talladega County shortly.

They are not severe, but winds of 40-50 mph are likely with isolated damaging wind gusts above 60 mph.

Very heavy rain will fall as well. Rainfall rates are running 0.5-1.5 inches per hour. Some flooding will occur.

There is also tremendous lightning and loud thunder.

More storms will be likely this afternoon across Central Alabama, so the event will not be over when these storms pass.

There is a risk of severe weather through the day until the additional storms move into Georgia late this afternoon.
