Several Reports of Trees Down; Strong Storms Continue

| June 27, 2018 @ 4:44 pm

Etowah County Emergency Management is reporting trees down in many areas across their county, including Gadsden, Walnut Grove, Southside and Altoona. Multiple trees are down on Hood Road in Southside. Two on structures.

There are reports of trees down in Cherokee County from earlier.

There are multiple fire departments responding to trees along the Blount/Jefferson County line, including Locust Fork. Highway 79 had fallen trees cross it.

Jeffrey Robinson in Trussville reports power out with trees down near their home as well. A tree down on Springville Road in Clay may have contributed to a multiple vehicle accident as well.

These reports are typical on days with strong microburst or downdraft winds that spread out when they crash into the ground. Winds this afternoon have been estimated at 40-50 mph, which can uproot trees.

The strongest storms continue over Cherokee, northern Calhoun/Cleburne, St. Clair, Talladega and eastern Shelby Counties. There are strong storms entering northwestern Jefferson County from southern Walker. Areas around Adamsville and Graysville over to Forestdale, Fultondale, Gardendale and North Birmingham will be affected. will
