Late Afternoon Radar Check

| July 7, 2018 @ 5:02 pm

As expected, the radar is quite active this afternoon with numerous showers and storms covering the Alabama landscape. These storms are producing tremendous amounts of lightning, gusty winds, perhaps some small hail, and very intense downpours. As we have seen in recent days, if you find yourself under one of the slow moving storms, it can produce localized flash flooding. Remember to TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!!!

The general motion of the storms is east to west across Central Alabama. The vast majority of storms have been across South Alabama today, but for portions of Central Alabama, the main convective activity has been over eastern portions of the state.

As we roll into the evening hours, expect these showers and storms to continue the westward tracks and they should maintain their potency through the remaining daylight hours. After the sun sets, storms will gradually begin to wind down, but even overnight, showers and storms will be possible.
