Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Early Afternoon Update

| July 20, 2018 @ 1:04 pm

Not much change in our thinking for tonight… an organized batch of storms will move across the northern 2/3 of Alabama.

*Storms will move from northwest to southeast… so they enter the Tennessee Valley first around 7 p.m.

*The main threat will come from damaging straight line winds, although an isolated tornado is possible.

*There is a chance this event could be similar to the June 28 derecho event that produced fairly widespread wind damage.

*Higher chance of wind damage tonight will be along and west of I-65, although a few severe storms are possible over East Alabama as well.

*Be sure you can hear warnings tonight, and pay attention to severe thunderstorm warnings.

*Additional severe storms will likely develop tomorrow afternoon and evening; SPC now has much of Alabama in the standard level 2/5 risk; damaging wind will be the main threat, but again an isolated tornado is not out of the question.

I will have a new forecast discussion and Weather Xtreme video posted a little later this afternoon.
