SPC Mesoscale Discussion: Severe Potential… Watch Possible

| September 4, 2018 @ 6:05 pm

SUMMARY…An isolated tornado threat will gradually increase through tonight as Gordon approaches the Alabama/Mississippi coastline. Trends are being monitored for a small Tornado Watch across portions of the discussion area.

DISCUSSION…Low-level vertical shear profiles have exhibited a gradual strengthening across the discussion area with the approach of TS Gordon. Additionally, convection offshore just east of the center of Gordon is rapidly moving northwestward and should gradually spread inland across the discussion area – first impacting areas from Mobile, AL to Fort Walton Beach, FL and vicinity over the next hour or so. These cells will pose a risk for isolated tornadoes through tonight as a more buoyant offshore airmass approaches coastal areas on the eastern and southeastern quadrant of the cyclone. Trends will be monitored for a small Tornado Watch issuance across portions of the discussion area.
