It’s Hot At Midday And It Will Only Get Hotter

| October 4, 2018 @ 12:22 pm

CONDITIONS AT 12:15 PM

Plenty of sunshine and plenty of heat can be felt across Central Alabama during the noon hour on this first Thursday of October. While we do have some clouds out there, it is not enough to cast any shade for any amount of time to give any relief from this early Autumn heat. Temperatures are currently in the mid-80s to the lower 90s throughout much of the area, with Montgomery and Eufaula tied at 90 degrees as the warm spot, and Sylacauga and Alexander City are tied as the cool spots at 83 degrees. Birmingham is at 88 degrees.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF TODAY

It will be a hot afternoon across Central Alabama this afternoon and don’t expect to get too much cooling help from any clouds out there. Skies will be mostly clear and afternoon highs will be up in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. Skies will become clear this evening and will remain that way throughout the overnight hours. Overnight lows will bottom out in the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

UPDATE ON THE TROPICS

Hurricane Leslie continues to slowly move to the north over the open waters of the Central Atlantic. She has weakened slightly to a weak hurricane with 75 MPH winds, and that weakening trend will continue as she will make a hard right turn to the east-southeast and continues her voyage away from the US Mainland.

Upper-level winds are keeping any organization from occurring with the disturbance over the southern Caribbean Sea. Conditions may become a little more conducive for development during the weekend and into next week as it drifts to the northwest into the northwestern Caribbean Sea and eventually into the southern Gulf of Mexico. We’ll have to watch it as some of the models have it coming onshore along the Gulf Coast between Grand Isle, LA and Panama City Beach, FL sometime between Wednesday and Saturday of next week. Too far out to be specific on any forecast point, but just mentioning what the models are showing (GFS, European, and Canadian). We’ll keep our eye on it.
