A Bright, Cool Fall Day For Alabama

| October 21, 2018 @ 6:00 am

Fall has finally arrived across Alabama with readings in the 30s and 40s across northern and central parts of the state. The initial cold front is spending time along the Gulf Coast on this Sunday morning, with the secondary front pursuing it.

FROM WARM TO COOL: With the flick of a switch, Central Alabama will go from a very warm first three weeks of October to below normal readings. We will be slightly below to near normal for the remainder of the week. Let’s dig into the details.

FALL SUNDAY: It will feel like fall out there across the area with clear skies, a breezy northeast wind and temperatures struggling to get out of the 50s for afternoon highs.

FROST TONIGHT? Frost is likely across about the northern half of Central Alabama as well as a possible freeze for normally colder locations, especially across North Alabama. Take precautions for any tender vegetation you might have.

RIDGING INTO MIDWEEK: The trough currently swinging through the East will be replaced by a little bit of ridging that will spread across the South. This will allow for some nice weather across Alabama Monday through Wednesday. Temperatures on Monday will rise into the upper 60s across much of the area with lower 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

RAIN RETURNS: Well, not much rain. But some rain will swing across the Deep South on Thursday and early Friday as low moves along the Gulf Coast with an accompanying trough tracking to its north. Don’ get your hopes up. Across Central Alabama, rainfall amounts will be less than one-half inch.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: As the Gulf low moves slowly up the East Coast, becoming a coastal storm, Alabama will once again be dominated by high pressure. This will set the stage for some decent weekend weather, with partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be near 70F. Lows will be in the 50s.

HALLOWEEN: Trick or treaters may be disappointed on the night of the 31st as a big storm system is expected to bring rain and storms to Alabama.

VOODOO COUNTRY: The GFS insists that a second wet weather system will begin impacting Alabama at the end of the period, around Monday, November 5th.

GULF COAST WEATHER: A good bit of wet weather will affect the beautiful beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida this week. Highs will be bouncing around between the 70s and 60s all week. Lows will be generally in the 50s to near 60F. Water temperatures at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab are still running 79F.
