Severe Threat Starting To Lessen Over South Alabama

| November 12, 2018 @ 3:58 pm

While a brief tornado or an isolated strong wind gust or two remain possible in southern Alabama and into the western Florida panhandle, the overall severe weather threat is starting to diminish somewhat over those areas. There is enough shear still available for the development of a few supercells, but the overall dynamics are starting to lift northward out of the area.

A Slight Risk for severe storms (level 2 of 5) includes locations south of a line from Dauphin Island to Perdido to Evergreen to just south of Eufaula. A Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) extends to the north as far as Bayou La Batre to Beatrice to Fort Deposit to Midway.

NWS Mobile continues a Tornado Watch until 7:00 pm CST for Baldwin, Covington, Escambia, and Mobile counties. NWS Tallahassee continues a Tornado Watch until 7:00 pm CST for Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties.

No watches or warnings are in effect for any parts of North and Central Alabama. Much of the shower activity has now pushed to the east of the I-59 corridor across the area, with the heaviest rainfall occurring down in parts of Dallas, Autauga, and Lowndes counties and south into the southwestern parts of the state.

Rain totals from across the Central Alabama area have ranged from just under 2.00 inches to nearly 3.50 inches. Rainfall has been a little less in North Alabama, but still impressive totals of 1.00 inches to 1.50 inches have been reported at this time.
