Dusting Up On Monte Sano in Huntsville, No Travel Issues

| December 10, 2018 @ 1:15 pm

This is the scene up on Monte Sano Mountain up in Huntsville from a few minutes ago. A nice dusting is covering the grassy areas and outdoor furniture, but notice none is sticking to the road surfaces.

As you can see by the above image, temperatures are running in the mid-30s to the lower 40s. Surface temperatures are just too warm to support accumulation on the roadways and other asphalt or concrete passages.

As the precipitation continues to move southward, it will be encountering temperatures in the mid-30s to the mid-40s in Central Alabama. So while flurries may be mixed in with light shower activity, no accumulations are expected.

The latest run of the HRRR shows shower activity moving southward across the northern half of the area through the remainder of the afternoon hours with activity really starting to diminish from the west around the 7:00 pm time frame. All activity should be out of the area around the midnight to 1:00 am time frame. As mentioned earlier, skies will clear out and allow temperatures to drop below freezing during the overnight hours. No major travel issues are expected with the exceptions of a couple slick spots. Temperatures across Central Alabama should be back above freezing by 8:00-9:00 am Tuesday morning.
