Sunny Saturday Afternoon

| December 22, 2018 @ 12:28 pm

HELLO SUNSHINE!: Though is was a freezing start to the day, it sure was nice to see the sunshine this morning after the past few cloudy days.

Sunshine remains in full supply today, and that will allow temperatures to warm well into the 50s across Alabama this afternoon.

Overall it is a very nice December Saturday of weather across Alabama. For tonight, clouds will increase and these clouds will keep temperatures from being so cold tomorrow morning, most locations should see lows ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s. There could also be a few showers arriving later over northwestern portions of the state.

SUNDAY SHOWERS: Tomorrow will be a mostly cloudy day with potential for scattered showers thanks to a weak frontal system passing over the state. Rain should be light and spotty, and the high will be in the upper 50s.

IS ULTIMA THULE SURROUNDED BY MINI-MOONS?: Long range images have revealed something strange about Ultima Thule, the distant Kuiper Belt Object that NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft is approaching for a New Year’s Day flyby. Although it is almost certainly irregular in shape, the brightness of Ultima Thule does not seem to change as it rotates in sunlight. One possible explanation: A swarm of “mini-moons.”

CHRISTMAS EVE/DAY: Sunshine returns for the these two days and the weather will be dry Monday and Tuesday. Santa will have no issues with weather across Alabama as he travels through the state Monday night. With plenty of sunshine we are forecasting highs in the mid to upper 50s with even a few lower 60s for portions of the state.
