No More Severe Weather Expected Tonight, Tornado Watch Cancelled

| January 19, 2019 @ 6:32 pm

After a very busy day in Central Alabama with multiple tornado warnings and significant damage occurring in Wetumpka, the severe weather risk is now over for the area. We have a few showers and storms over the extreme southeastern parts of the area, but those will push over the state line and out of Alabama within the next 20-30 minutes. Behind that, we have a few light showers over the central parts of the area that is just ahead of the cold front.

Temperatures are already starting their rapid retreat as it is already down to 43 degrees in Haleyville at 6:15 pm while it is still 65 in Eufaula. Birmingham is at 55 degrees. The air is quickly drying out as well with the dewpoint in Haleyville at 39 while the dewpoint is 63 in Eufaula. The dewpoint is down to 52 in Birmingham.

While there is a very small possibility of some light snow flurries, I believe the atmosphere will dry out too quickly before there will be a chance of those making it to the surface. If flurries were to happen, winds will continue to be elevated and temperatures will be too warm for any accumulations to occur.
