Sunny But Still Rather Chilly At Midday

| January 21, 2019 @ 12:31 pm

We have mainly clear skies across Central Alabama as we are making the run-up to 12:30 PM on this very bright but still rather chilly Monday. There are a few clouds out there, but they are very hard to spot on the visible satellite image. Temperatures are struggling to warm up with all of the sunshine, only in the mid-30s to the mid-40s across much of the area. The only spot warmer than the mid-40s is Eufaula at 47 degrees. Birmingham was only at 39 degrees, while several locations were tied as the cool spots at 36 degrees. At least we have very light winds at this point that is saving us from the brutal rawness that we felt in yesterday’s weather.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR MONDAY
We’ll continue to have mainly clear skies with plenty of bright sunshine through the rest of the daylight hours but temperatures will only climb into the mid-40s to the lower 50s for the afternoon highs. Clear skies will continue throughout the evening and overnight hours with lows bottoming out in the upper 20s to the lower 30s.

A LITTLE WARMER ON TUESDAY, SHOWERS MOVE IN LATE
There will be a low starting to get its act together over north-central Kansas on Tuesday morning and will move northeastward into extreme northern Illinois by the end of the day. It will be dragging a cold front with it that will have showers developing out ahead of it. Clouds will start to move into the area on Tuesday afternoon and we’ll have a chance of showers during the evening and late night hours across Central Alabama. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s to the mid-50s across the area with overnight lows in the lower 40s to the lower 50s.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY
1863 – A severe coastal storm dropped heavy rain on the Fredericksburg area of Virginia. It disrupted a Union Army offensive in an ill-famed “mud march.”
