A Windy, Stormy Wednesday for Central and North Alabama

| January 23, 2019 @ 5:35 am

Complex surface low pressure developing to our west and northwest today will produce windy and rainy conditions for Alabama with some severe weather over southern sections of the state.

A wind advisory has been issued for much of the state for today and this evening winds of 15-25 mph will occasionally gust to near 40 mph. This will break tree limbs and bring down some trees that are weakened. In addition, wet grounds from recent rains will cause some trees to blow over.

Be alert for sudden changes in wind velocity if you are driving, especially in higher profile vehicles.

1.5-2 inches of rain is expected today and tonight as well.

Some thunder will be heard as far north as Hamilton, Cullman, and Centre. There is a risk of isolated severe weather (1/5 on the scale) as far north as Livingston, Greensboro, Marion, Hayneville, and Luverne. There is the standard slight risk (2/5) for Mobile and Baldwin Counties, as well as southeastern Louisiana, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the Pensacola area. The highest risk is for damaging winds, but there is a risk of a tornado as well over southeastern Mississippi, southwestern Alabama and northwestern Florida.
