Stronger Wind Gusts Are Translating Down To The Surface With A Few Of These Storms

| February 12, 2019 @ 11:45 am

At 11:37 am, we continue to see a line of strong thunderstorms pushing through the extreme east and southeastern parts of Central Alabama, with the potential of strong gusty winds up to 50 MPH and a very small threat of a brief spin-up tornado.

We have seen a couple of reports of some minor damage caused by winds in Lowndes County and out of Wetumpka in Elmore County.

At this point, winds have not been strong enough to warrant a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, but strong enough to cause some minor damage to some structures. There is a report that the Lowe’s in Wetumpka has sustained some damage, but we do not know how bad the damage is at this point.

Troy Airport just reported a peak wind gust of 46 MPH.

If this line of storms is approaching your location, be ready to act. This line is moving into an area with increased instability due to the earlier sunshine. These storms may continue to grow stronger as they continue through the southeastern parts of the area.

We’ll continue to keep you posted.
