Heavy Rain and Storms Moving Across West Alabama

Rain and storms are moving across Pickens, Lamar and into Fayette Counties at this hour.

Other storms are in the Tuscaloosa area. They will move into western Jefferson County within the next 30 minutes.

The storms have lots of lightning and heavy rain. They are not severe and are not expected to become severe. The heavy rain is the main threat for now.

Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches have already fallen across North Central Alabama, between Lamar and Franklin Counties on the west, to DeKalb, Cherokee and Cleburne Counties on the east. Over 2.5 inches has fallen across Parts of northern Lamar, Marion, and Winston Counties, as well as eastern Cullman and Marshall Counties. Over 3 inches has fallen in southern DeKalb County, east of Geraldine.

Flood advisories are already in effect for parts of Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker and Winston Counties. Some of these counties could get upgraded to flash flood warnings with the heavy rain moving in.

Flash flood watches continue for much of North and North Central Alabama through Friday.
