The Best And Worst Things You Can Do For Your Heart

February is American Heart Month, and University of Alabama at Birmingham physicians and specialists want to make sure you know the best and worst ways to keep your heart pumping.

According to the 2019 American Heart Association’s (AHA’s) Heart and Stroke Statistics update, nearly half (48 percent, 121.5 million in 2016) of all adults in the United States have some type of cardiovascular disease.

Because there is an opportunity for almost half of Americans to help prevent heart disease, UAB Division of Cardiovascular Disease Assistant Professor Joanna Joly, M.D., says there are several ways people can be proactive about their heart health to combat those statistics.
