Absolutely Beautiful Outside At Midday

| March 19, 2019 @ 12:57 pm

We have very little in the way of clouds in the sky across Central Alabama at midday, as sunshine and blue skies are the main story at 12:40 pm. Temperatures are in the mid-50s to the lower 60s across the area which is currently a little below normal for this time of year, but I will gladly take this over thunderstorms any day. Birmingham is at 55 degrees while a few locations are tied at 61 degrees for the warm spots. Haleyville is the cool spot at 54 degrees.

So for the rest of today, we’ll continue to have nearly maximum sunshine with only one or two clouds floating by. Afternoon highs will get up into the lower to mid-60s today. Clear skies throughout the evening and overnight hours, but it may be cold enough for some patchy frost in the colder locations. Lows will be in the 30s throughout the area.

Wednesday’s weather will nearly be a carbon copy of today, especially during the daylight hours. Skies will continue to be almost completely clear with plenty of sunshine with one or two clouds floating by. Highs top out in the mid-60s to the lower 70s. Unfortunately, we may have to put up with a few passing showers over the northern parts of the area during the evening and overnight hours as a disturbance will be sliding by to our north. If any showers move through, they will be confined to locations north of the I-20 corridor. The chance of showers in those locations is only 20-30% as you move north. Lows will be in the lower to mid-40s.

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN FOR INDYCAR AT BARBER

Pack a picnic/cooler and bring the family out for a weekend full of activities and racing! It’s way too early for a specific forecast but normal highs on those days run in the lower 70s with normal early morning lows in the upper 40s. For tickets, CLICK HERE.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY
2018 – An EF-3 tornado tore through the town of Jacksonville, in Calhoun County. The tornado first touched down west of US Highway 431 north of Wellington, where it rapidly intensified and widened. The tornado entered the City of Jacksonville where it gained strength into the EF3 category, with winds around 140 mph. It removed most of the roof and the top floor of two buildings in an apartment complex. The tornado affected most of the campus of Jacksonville State University. Several buildings sustained significant damage. The most intense winds remained north of the campus however, mowing down trees and causing direct damage to homes. As the tornado crossed Highway 21, it caused major damage to the Merrill Building. It then moved into a highly populated zone, where scores of homes suffered major damage and rendered many uninhabitable. The tornado maintained its strength as it crossed Choccolocco Mountain, with winds funneled up the valleys mowing down trees. Despite the damage, there were no fatalities and only one serious injury.
