Rain and a Few Strong Storms Possible Later

| April 6, 2019 @ 12:52 pm

A warm, moist air mass is in place across the state and with several features working across the area the next several days, showers and storms are in the forecast. Some of the storms will be packing a punch and could be on the strong to severe side at times.

THE REST OF TODAY: Much of the morning across the northern half of the state has been sunny, but to the south, clouds and scattered showers and storms have been ongoing.

These showers and storms are associated with a warm front which is lifting north today. As this front continues to lift north through the state, some of these storms could be strong to marginally severe this afternoon and evening.

The SPC maintains a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for this afternoon and tonight for nearly all of Alabama.

In addition to the storms along the warm front, another batch of storms will likely enter the state from the west tonight. Heavier storms could produce hail and strong gusty winds as they move into and through the state.

FOR TOMORROW: Tomorrow will be a generally dry and warm day with only a few isolated showers; temperatures reach the low 80s in many areas. To the west of the state, severe weather is expected across a large portion of the Lower Mississippi River Valley, but these storms are expected to be weakening as they move into the state late tomorrow night. The SPC has shifted the ‘marginal risk” (level 1/5) for severe storms to extreme northwest of Alabama for the possibility of a few of these storms maintaining their intensity.

Once again, the main threat with these storms will come from hail and gusty winds, and this should be late tomorrow night and into the early morning hours of Monday.
