A Brief Check On Our Weather Situation At 3:45 AM
At 3:40 am, the broken line of strong to severe storms have reached the central parts of North/Central Alabama. A Tornado Warning is in effect for Bibb County until 4:15 am for a cell that has a radar confirmed tornado just southeast of Brent and is moving northeast at 40 MPH. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Cullman and Morgan counties until 4:15 am. That cluster is moving to the east at 30 MPH.
The activity is moving a little quicker as a whole to the east and could possibly be out of the area before the church services start later this morning.
Instability continues to slowly drop but is still high enough to maintain these storms as they move east. Bulk shear continues to be rather strong at 60-70 knots, and combine that with helicity values in the 300-600 m2/s2 range, which continues the threat of rotating updrafts. STP values are in the 1.0-2.5 range which is a little lower, but still high enough to keep us worried about the possibility of a significant tornado or two.
