A Quick Late Afternoon Update Strong To Severe Storms Approaching The State Line

| April 18, 2019 @ 4:10 pm

Now it’s time to watch the radar as the storms will soon begin to move into the western parts of Central Alabama. The strongest line of storms is now pushing through the east-central parts of Mississippi and down into the extreme eastern parts of Louisiana. Several tornado warnings are currently in effect in Mississippi and we know of some damage that has been caused, especially cars flipped over at a Walmart in Clinton, Mississippi.

The higher risk of tornadoes throughout the rest of the afternoon and through the evening hours will be over the hatched locations shown on the above map from the Storm Prediction Center. That includes locations in Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Dallas, Autauga, Montgomery, Marengo, Lowndes, and Bullock counties.

With that being said, tornadoes are possible across all of Central Alabama throughout the afternoon and through the night and overnight hours and into the morning hours on Friday. Stay weather aware throughout the entire area.

The main window for severe storms across Central Alabama continues to be from now until 5:00 am Friday morning. To break it down, the western third of the area (west of a line from Demopolis to West Jefferson to Holly Pond) will occur from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm west to east, the central third of the area (east to a line from Fort Deposit to Alexander City to Ranburne) from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am, and the eastern third of the area from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

We’ll continue to have updates throughout the event. Stay tuned.
