Not Too Bad Out There At Midday, Storms Slowly Moving In Our Direction

| May 10, 2019 @ 1:05 pm

While a good bit of Central Alabama is experiencing some sunshine at the moment, we do have some showers and storms over southeastern and central Mississippi that are slowly moving towards the area. The good news is that there are no severe watches or warnings in effect in the southeastern parts of the country, and hopefully, it will stay that way across Central Alabama for the rest of the day.

Temperatures are currently in the 70s to the lower 80s across the area with the warm spot being Troy at 82 degrees. Birmingham was currently at 77 degrees, while the cool spot is Haleyville at 70 degrees.

Clouds will continue to move in from the west and skies will be mostly cloudy by late afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely mainly over the western and northwestern locations in the area while a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the eastern and southeastern locations. Highs will top out in the mid-70s to the mid-80s. Scattered showers and storms will be possible throughout the overnight hours, mainly north of the I-85 corridor. Lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

Nearly the entire state is under a Marginal Risk throughout the day on Saturday as we’ll have a threat of stronger thunderstorms with damaging winds up to 60 MPH possible. With a stalled front over the northwestern parts of the state, that will provide lift for the development of strong to severe thunderstorm clusters. We’ll have several rounds of storms throughout the weekend and the severe threat continues into Sunday. Saturday’s highs will be in the mid-70s to the mid-80s.
