Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Mainly Sunny and Hot Saturday

| May 18, 2019 @ 1:16 pm

Plenty of sunshine across Alabama today. It is very warm to hot as well with temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the state. Factor in that humidity, and it sure feels a lot like summer.

As of early this afternoon, the radar is quiet, but we will be watching for a few of those isolated afternoon storms to show up across the Alabama landscape at some point today. These will be few and far between, and nearly all us should stay dry. Tonight will feature a mainly clear night, with muggy conditions, lows should be in the mid 60s for most locations.

FOR TOMORROW: Most of the day will be dry, but a band of showers and storms will creep into West Alabama by mid to late afternoon, then moving eastward through the state tomorrow night; these are ahead of a weakening front. The SPC has a “marginal risk” defined for much of the western portions of the state; essentially for areas west of Interstate 65; a few storms in the areas could produce gusty winds and small hail, but the overall threat is low.

IN THE TROPICS: A large and elongated area of cloudiness and disorganized thunderstorms has developed well to the east of the Bahamas. An area of low pressure is expected to form within this area of disturbed weather several hundred miles south or southwest of Bermuda by early next week. Gradual development of this system into a tropical or subtropical cyclone is possible during the early and middle part of next week while it moves northward or northeastward. Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent. Formation chance through 5 days…medium…40 percent.
