| May 19, 2019 @ 1:45 am

Severe storms continue tonight across Central and northern Louisiana, as well as southeastern Texas.

At this hour, there is a tornado warning just south of Jasper, Texas, with is well north fo Beaumont.

Powerful thunderstorms extend from Ruston to Natchitoches in Louisiana to near Jasper, Texas. There is a high probability of damaging winds that is passing just south of Ruston, which was hard hit by a tornado last month.

These storms will slowly weaken through the overnight hours as they slide southeastward. A tornado watch is in effect for much of northern Louisiana. A new tornado watch has been issued for northeastern Louisiana into western Mississippi. This activity should weaken well below severe limits before it reaches western Alabama.

Additional showers over northern Mississippi that have crossed I-55 are weakening as well and should fall apart before they reach our state.

But the activity currently over Louisiana will slide into western Alabama during the morning hours. Additional storms will move in during the afternoon. Some of those could be strong or even severe. The SPC maintains a marginal risk of severe weather for western Alabama today.

Additional storms will move into northwestern Alabama during the evening. Some of them could be strong as well. They should generally die out before reaching I-59.
