Hot With A Few Showers At Midday

| August 19, 2019 @ 12:20 pm

We have some shower activity that has popped up across a few locations in Central Alabama. Hopefully, we’ll get several more today, not only to help cool us down, but to help with parts of the area that is experiencing drought conditions. Temperatures are currently in the lower 80s to the mid-90s across the area. The cool spot is Alexander City at 83 degrees while the hot spot is Vaiden Field in Uniontown at 96 degrees. Birmingham was at 88 degrees at 12:15 pm.

The blast furnace will stay cranked up for at least one more day as afternoon highs across Central Alabama will be in the mid to upper 90s with a location or two hitting or briefly going over 100 degrees. There is a small risk of a few isolated afternoon showers and storms for locations along and north of the I-20 and I-59/20 corridors, while a higher risk of scattered afternoon showers and storms are possible south of that. A Heat Advisory is up for Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties until 9:00 pm tonight. All activity should come to an end at or before 10:00 pm tonight and lows will drop into the lower to mid-70s.

More of a typical summertime pattern for this time of the year on Tuesday as we’ll have a good bit of sunshine early with clouds developing with the daytime heating. A few scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the area, around 30%-50% from northwest to southeast. Afternoon highs will drop back a few degrees into the lower to mid-90s across Central Alabama.

A disturbance located off of the Virginia coast has a very small potential of developing into a depression over the next five days as it moves off to the northeast and staying off of the coastline. The NHC is only giving it a 10% chance of development within the next five days. The rest of the Atlantic Basin remains quiet.
