WeatherReady Fest Saturday! Come Early to Sign Up For Tours of the NWS Huntsville and SWIRLL

| September 5, 2019 @ 8:30 am

Join top meteorologists this Saturday for this once-a-year weather festival! From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, UAH’s Charger Union and Shelby Center for Science & Technology will be buzzing with fun activities, speaking events, stage shows, hands-on demonstrations and more.

Come early to sign up for tours of the National Weather Service Huntsville office and get a first-hand look at the latest forecasting technology at SWIRLL (Severe Weather Institute – Radar & Lightning Laboratories). This includes their mobile weather units that are deployed during storms for research purposes. There are a limited number of spaces for these tours, which will be held throughout the day — so be sure you sign up early to reserve your spot!

College football fans can rest assured that WeatherReady Fest won’t interfere with game day. “We’ll have the TVs on the football games in the Charger Union so nobody will miss a thing,” says Bill Murray, festival chair and president of The Weather Factory.

From the savvy weather enthusiast to the novice learner, WeatherReady Fest will have fascinating learning opportunities for all levels and all ages. Don’t miss James Spann’s book signing from 10 a.m. to noon. Climb in Storm Chasing & Research Vehicles. Watch Nick Walker from The Weather Channel for his stage shows. And be sure to complete designated activities in the Weather Passport to qualify for weather-related door prizes, which will be awarded throughout the day.

Additional details can be found at the festival website: www.weatherreadyfest.com. Admission to the WeatherReady Fest event is free. Guests are encouraged to get their free timed tickets at the website. While the tickets are not required, they will ensure that you get the WRF Passport, which is chock full of great weather information!
