WeatherReady Fest Saturday! A Day of Weather Safety, Learning, Fun…and PRIZES!

| September 5, 2019 @ 1:20 pm

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, September 7th, the University of Alabama Huntsville will host WeatherReady Fest. You won’t want to miss this day of fun and learning about all things weather!

Only once a year will you find a weather festival like this! This community outreach event kicks off the weeklong convention for meteorologists and a record turnout is expected. Last year’s event in St. Louis brought out about 6,500 guests. More than 3,000 attending the inaugural event in Birmingham in 2011.

College football fans can rest assured that WeatherReady Fest won’t interfere with game day. “We’ll have the TVs on the football games in the Charger Union so nobody will miss a thing,” says Bill Murray, festival chair and president of The Weather Factory.

Boost your weather IQ by hearing “How Weather Works” with Mike Mogil. Experience the power of wind by standing inside a wind-tunnel. Encourage young learners by singing along with Nick Walker from The Weather Channel. Come early to sign up for the rare opportunity to tour the National Weather Service office in Huntsville and the Severe Weather Institute and Radar & Lightning Laboratories (SWIRLL).

Shake hands with James Spann and pick up an autographed copy of his newly-released book, “Weathering Life.” Be sure to complete designated activities in the Weather Passport to qualify for weather-related door prizes, which will be awarded throughout the day.
