Morning Look at the Tropics
Hurricane Lorenzo is located a little over 500 miles southwest of the westernmost Azores Islands this morning. Top winds are 100 mph. Tropical-storm-force winds will begin affecting the islands tonight, with a brief period of strong tropical storm force winds possible over the western portions of the islands late tonight and early tomorrow.
Lorenzo will become extratropical late tomorrow night but still impact the UK as a powerful storm late Thursday and Friday.
Elsewhere, a disturbance over the western Caribbean is expected to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Friday, but the NHC only puts the chance of development at about 10 percent. And a surface trough extending from the Bahamas out into the Atlantic also has a low chance of developing as it moves out to sea well south of Bermuda.
