More Extreme & Record Heat Today, Code Orange Air Quality Alert

| October 3, 2019 @ 12:03 pm

Skies are mostly clear across Central Alabama as we have made it to the midday hour on this scorching Thursday. We do have a few clouds over the central parts of the area, but no hope of rain at the moment to bring us any relief from the heat. Temperatures are in the 90s across the area at the moment. Birmingham was at 97 degrees. Montgomery and Uniontown are tied as the hot spots at 99 degrees. Gadsden is the cool spot at 91 degrees at the moment.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR THURSDAY
For the rest of the afternoon hours, skies will range from mostly sunny to partly cloudy. There is a very, very small chance of an isolated shower or two over the southern parts of the area, but nearly everyone in Central Alabama will remain dry. Afternoon highs will range from 95-102 degrees across the area. All major reporting stations across Central Alabama will break record highs once again today and may even reset the record for the hottest temperature in recorded weather history for the month of October in a few locations. For this evening through the overnight hours, skies will be mainly clear across the area but there may be a stray shower over the southern portions of the area before the end of the evening. Lows will get down into the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

BLAST FURNACE CONTINUES TO BRING SCORCHING HEAT ON FRIDAY
Much of the same on Friday as skies will be mostly sunny and hot. There may be a stray shower or two over the southern portions of the area during the afternoon hours, but most will remain dry. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 90s.

THE TROPICS
There is a broad low moving westward toward the Yucatan Peninsula but there is really no threat of development as upper-level winds will not allow for it. The rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet.
